JFP STUDIOS / EDITORIAL CASE STUDY

Before She Spent $25,000 on Inventory, We Changed the Plan.

Paula Tatum had a real estate practice, a tax practice, an eyewear brand in development and a podcast, with no story connecting them. JFP Studios built the narrative that tied them together, made her podcast the lead audience channel and moved her eyewear launch to a Founding Circle pre-order model that validates demand before inventory.…

Paula Tatum · JFP STUDIOS CASE STUDY

01 / THE BUSINESS CONTEXT

The context behind the transformation.

Paula Tatum had built several legitimate business assets, but no single story connecting them:

  • Established services: real estate and tax clients.
  • An audience platform: her podcast, The Email You Never Got.
  • New products: the Tatūm & Co. eyewear concept and a relationship workbook.

She needed a hierarchy that made the pieces understandable together.

A unifying brand story and a pre-order launch that saved Paula Tatum $25,000 before she bought inventory.

02 / THE CHALLENGE

Several real businesses. No unifying narrative. A costly inventory decision.

The underlying business objective shaped what JFP Studios recommended and built.

THE CHALLENGE IN BRIEF

  • Paula had multiple ventures but no unified story connecting them.
  • An eyewear inventory decision risked committing $25,000 before demand was validated.
  • Her existing audience assets were not organized around a clear customer journey.

Paula described the problem clearly: she could not get the story together.

  • Disconnected ventures: each offer was moving on its own.
  • Untapped audience: existing client trust and podcast material were not organized into a common journey.
  • Financial exposure: the planned eyewear launch risked an inventory commitment before demand was tested.

03 / THE CREATIVE RESPONSE

Find the thread. Build the audience. Validate demand before inventory.

We built a common brand narrative and put audience development ahead of inventory. Paula's podcast provided the starting point; a pre-order approach would test demand before stock.

WHAT WE DID / THREE DECISIONS

  • Identify the unifying theme across her podcast, eyewear, services and workbook.
  • Make the podcast the lead audience platform and establish a brand hierarchy.
  • Use a Founding Circle pre-order strategy to test demand before inventory.

Find the thread first. Across eyewear, real estate and the podcast, the connection was encouragement, resilience, composure and helping people feel understood. Paula’s eyewear story grew out of a season of caretaking, when sunglasses helped her hold her composure and later became a choice she made for herself. That became the narrative everything else is built on: protection and beauty can coexist.

A clear brand hierarchy

  • The Email You Never Got: the primary audience platform, built on her strongest medium, her voice
  • Tatūm & Co.: the long-term revenue focus, minimal eyewear designed to feel like armor
  • Real estate and tax services: transitional income that funds the build
  • The relationship workbook: future intellectual property

Create once, build from the source

Each episode becomes a newsletter edition, a quote, an educational resource and an audience conversation, so Paula records once and every channel draws from it.

Start with people who already know her

Her phone contacts, email contacts, professional relationships, friends, family and podcast listeners became the starting point for an owned email list.

Demand before inventory

JFP replaced the product-first path with a Founding Circle: build the audience, identify early buyers, collect commitments through pre-orders, then size the inventory order to validated demand. Early believers are rewarded, and real customers inform the first release.

The work was delivered as a brand narrative, messaging framework, brand hierarchy, audience strategy and Founding Circle strategy, presented in a 20-slide strategy deck.

05 / THE RESULTS

A clearer brand hierarchy and a more responsible launch sequence.

$25K

Inventory commitment avoided

Pre-order approach protected cash before committing to inventory.

90 days

Implementation plan mapped

Newsletter, audience development and existing-content activation.

Demand before inventory

  • $25,000 in planned inventory commitment avoided through a demand-first pre-order strategy.
  • A unified brand hierarchy connected Paula's podcast, eyewear, services and other products.
  • A 90-day implementation plan mapped the newsletter, email list and reuse of existing content.

The business implication

  • Clarity protects capital: before expanding product inventory, the business needed a clear story and a route to paying demand.
  • Existing media can carry the launch: the podcast and audience become a lower-risk way to introduce products and learn from customer interest.

The $25,000 reflects a planned inventory commitment avoided, not additional revenue generated.

The documented $25,000 inventory avoidance is a reduced planned commitment; it is not sales revenue.
